Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund

I have heard from many constituents about your deep concern over the crisis in Myanmar.  This crisis has resulted in the influx of an additional 600,000 Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh since August 25th, 2017, the majority being women and children. This has triggered a humanitarian emergency of such a scale that concerted international action is urgently required. Refugees and host communities in Bangladesh, as well as displaced people within Myanmar, are in urgent need of basic necessities such as food assistance, water, sanitation services, shelter, protection and health care.

An effective and timely humanitarian assistance response is essential to address the immediate life-saving needs of these crisis-affected people.

In order to address what the United Nations is calling the “fastest growing humanitarian and refugee crisis”, Canada launched the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund on October 31, 2017.

For every eligible donation made by individuals to registered Canadian charities between August 25 and November 28, 2017, the Government of Canada will contribute an equivalent amount to the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund. In addition, through the Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund, Canada will continue to address the needs of women and girls through gender-sensitive program design and the prioritization of services to the extremely vulnerable, including pregnant women, single mothers and women-headed households.
